Christine Amertil Wins 400m

Christine Amertil captured the Gold medal on Monday (July 26th) in the Central American and Caribbean Games in Mayaguez, Puerto Rico. The Athens Olympics finalist ran a seasonal best of 52.16sec to win the coveted regional title.

Sasha Rolle finished eighth in 54.48sec.

Andretti Bain won his Semi-Final on Sunday and finished fourth in the final in 45. 54sec. The event was won by Costa Rican Nery Brenes in a Personal Best of 44.84sec.

Berlin Bronze medallist, Reny Quow of Trinidad and Tobago, failed to finish.


Rudon Bastian leapt 7.70m in the Long Jump for fourth place. Tyrone Smith of Bermuda did a Personal Best of 8.22m for the win.

Michelle Cumberbatch was listed to participate in the Women’s 400m Hurdles but she did not show.

On Tuesday, Debbie Ferguson, Athens and Berlin Bronze medalist in the 200m, will run in the Semi-Finals. She runs out of lane four of the first semi.

Nathaniel McKinney and Jamial Rolle are also listed to participate in the 200m.
As a footnote Cuba, the usual victor in this event, is not participating in these Games. Incidentally, today, July 26th is their Independence Day.

Sheree Francis and Zara Northover were second in the high and shot put respectively.

Congrats as Bahamas continue to show their strength in the one lap event...but watch out Bahamas (men), Jermaine Gonzales and Ricardo Chambers are here and will be around for the next three years, World Champs (2) and London Olympic Games
