EDMONTON, Alberta In less than 40 days, Edmonton will begin to witness the extraordinary with the busiest and most important summer for track & field in Edmonton’s history. Over 9 days in July, more than 3,000 of some of the world’s most elite international athletes compete before an estimated 40,000 spectators at the University of Alberta’s Foote Field. The monumental staging of these events is made possible with the help of over 500 volunteers.

The highly anticipated world-class track and field event trifecta begins with the “Nationals” Canadian Track and Field Championships on July 2-5th, 2015, followed by TrackTown Classic on July 11-12th, 2015 and wraps up with the 18th Panamerican Junior Athletics Championships on July 31-August 2nd, 2015.

With a reputation for excellence hosting athletic events, Edmonton is now recognized as a top five host city for track and field in all of the Americas and ranked Top 30 out of 876 IAAF one-day invitational meets in the world. So it’s no surprise that Athletics Canada has awarded Edmonton both the junior and senior Canadian Championships.

“This is the first time in history both championships have been awarded to the same city and at the same time.” says Peter Ogilvie, CEO of TrackTown Canada.

“The Road to Rio Runs Through Edmonton” features important meets for competing athletes leading up to the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro and provides a showcase for spectators to watch the world’s best superstars and young rising stars break records and accomplish amazing feats.
