Most appearance by a Caribbean athlete-Kim Collins (10)

Kim Collins became the Caribbean athlete with the most World Champs appearance when he ran in the heats of the men’s 100m. He competed in his tenth WC (95, 97, 99, 01, 03, 05, 07, 09, 11, 15). Jesus Angel Garcia (ESP) holds the record for the most World Championships appearance with 12 (93, 95, 97, 99, 01, 03, 05, 07, 09, 11, 13, 15), all in the men’s 50 km Walk. The 46 year old competed in the men’s 50 Km Walk on Saturday

The top Caribbean women are Bahamians Laverne Eve and Jackie Edwards with nine appearances.

Oldest competitor in the men’s 100m-Kim Collins

At 40 years 140 days Kim Collins is now the oldest competitor in the men’s 100m when he ran in the heats on Sunday 23 August. He eclipsed the previous age of 38 years 248 days held by Bermuda-born Troy Douglas of the Netherlands at the 2001 World Champs. Collins also holds the record as the oldest medallist and finalist (35 years and 145 days) when he won bronze in 2011. He also has the most appearances (eight) in the event. 

Most gold medals in the men’s 4x400m-6

Merritt landed his sixth straight 4x400m gold. He won his first title as a 19 year old in 2005 helping the USA to gold after his run in the heats.

Merritt won a sixth 4x400m medal to go one better than five collected by Jamaican Danny McFarlane (95, 97, 99, 01, 03).
