KINGSTON, Jamaica – The Jamaica Inter-Collegiate Sports Association (INTERCOL) held its Annual General Meeting (AGM) on June 4, 2015 on the campus of the College of Agriculture, Science and Education (CASE) in Passley Gardens, Portland.

Dalton Myers of the University of the West Indies was elected President and will serve for a four year term (2015-2019). 

He will be supported by: Messrs Ventley Brown – 1st Vice President (G.C. Foster College), Sefton Brown – 2nd Vice President (Northern Caribbean University), Laurence Garriques – General Secretary (University of Technology), Mrs. Annette Stennett – Treasurer (Moneague College) and Ms. Carlene Edwards – Public Relations Officer (Jamaica National Building Society).

The mandate of the new executive is to consolidate and restructure INTERCOL to ensure its continued growth and sustainability over the next four (4) years. The initiatives to be undertaken include:

–  Restructuring the Intercol Sports Competitions

·         – Establishing development programmes for student-athletes at each institution

·         – Registering the organization as a limited liability company

·        –  Restructuring the accounting system with an appropriate operational budget and an external auditor.

·         – Appoint well respected sports administrators to serve on the disciplinary sports committee

·        –  Appoint a media committee to raise the profile of the organization and seek external support

·         – Establish vision and mission statements for the organization

·        –  Revise and update the competition guidelines for each sport

·        –  Explore the possibility of obtaining apparel and equipment sponsors

      The 2015/16 season of Intercol sees six (6) sports been contested namely; Football male and female, Basketball male, Netball, Badminton male and female, Table Tennis male and female and Rugby 9’s.

The season commences on October 10, 2015 with the Netball rally at UWI, Mona Bowl.  

The Jamaica Inter-Collegiate Association is the national governing body for collegiate level sports in Jamaica and is affiliated with the International University Sports Federation (FISU).

Established in 1961, the association presently consists of 21 members from across the island, the General Assembly of which is the final authority on matters governing the Association. The respective sports are also managed by a competition chairman and a committed team of volunteers, whilst the elected executive officers are charged with carrying out the overall affairs of the association.
