Men’s 110m Hurdles
Finally, the world gets an opportunity to see arguably the best 110m hurdles line-up this season, at the 2015 Prefontaine Classic. The field includes the unbeaten Aleec Harris who up until recently had the fastest time (13.16) in the world. He has defeated almost everyone in this field and will be aiming to reclaim his world lead and status. His personal best (13.14) was done at this stadium last year and chances are Harris could be celebrating a new milestone on Saturday May 30th, 2015.
However, the powerful David Oliver the current world leader (13.15) has gotten back his groove and looks menacing leading into the remainder of the season. Defending Diamond race winner and last year’s surprise package Martinot-Lagarde Pascal of France will make his 2015 outdoor debut. Pascal won the 60m at the 2015 European Athletics Indoor Championships in March. The Frenchman will be hoping to repeat last year’s feat where he won the last five Diamond meetings including the Prefontaine Classic meet.
Cuba’s Orlando Ortega has been consistent all season and is currently in second spot in the Diamond race. Jamaica’s record holder Hansle Parchment has not looked the same athlete since returning from injury and is on a long journey back to his best. Parchment was slated to compete here in Eugene; however, he has been replaced by his countryman Andrew Riley on the start list.
Olympic champion and world record holder Aries Merritt (12.80) is another athlete searching for his best form. Merritt has a season best of 13.25 seconds and must improve if he hopes to make the trip to Beijing as a competitor instead of a tourist. Russia’s World championship bronze medallist and record holder Sergey Shubenkov and Asian Games champion Wenjun Xie of China complete this impressive line-up. This event should be captivating from start to finish.
