GLASGOW – Jamaica won all medals on offer in the women’s 400m here at the 20th Commonwealth Games on Tuesday. Jamaica also won the men’s 110m hurdles and women’s triple jump to dominate the 3rd day of athletics.

Stephenie McPherson (50.67) closed fastest to win the women’s over late leader Novlene Williams-Mills (50.86). Christine Day (51.09) passed defending champion Amantle Montsho on the line for bronze (51.09 to 51.10).

In the men’s 110mH, Andrew Riley (13.32, -0.3m/s wind) ran the cleanest race to finish ahead of Will Sharman (13.36) and Barbadian Shane Braithwaite (13.49). 20-year-old Australian Nicholas Hough set a PB of 13.57 for 4th.

Kimberly Williams (14.21, -0.9)) won the women’s triple jump for Jamaica while for Ayanna Alexander of Trinidad and Tobago pocketed silver with 14.01 (+0.8). England’s Laura Samuel was 2nd with a big PB of 14.09 (+1.5) while 4th went to Jamaica's Shenieka Thomas 13.85m.

Canada ruled the multi events, but bronze went to Grenada’s Kurt Felix in a national record 8070 points. Damian Warner won the decathlon with 8282, clocking a fast 13.50 PB (+0.5, fastest ever in decathlon at the games) over 110mH. Silver for Ashley Bryant of England 8109

In the men’s 400m, Martyn Rooney was impressive in his semi 45.22, but Kirani James of Grenada was the fastest in 45.14. Trinidad and Tobago’s Lalonde Gordon 45.37 and Bahamian Latoy Williams 45.44 also advance to the final. 

Joyce Chepkirui pipped Florence Kiplagat on the line to win the women’s 10 000m final (32:09.35 to 32:09.48). Emily Chebet (32:10.82) made it a clean sweep for Kenya during third day of athletics at Commonwealth Games. Kate Avery of England and mid race leader Beth Potter of Scotland battled for the best of the rest (32:33.35 to 32:33.36, PB´s for both).

Running from the front, 20 year old Faith Kipyegon took the women’s 1500m in 4:08.94, but the other Kenyans faltered: Hellen Obiri 6th 4:10.84, Busienei 12th. Laura Weightman took silver in 4:09.24 and bronze for Canadian Kate Van Buskirk 4:09.41.

Jessica Zelinka was also fast over hurdles with 12.83 (+1.5), best ever at the games in the heptathlon. The day 1 leader is Brianne Theisen Eaton (3939), she closed with a 200m PB of 23.41 (+0.2, meet record in heptathlon) and was the best also in shot 13.71 and high jump 184. Canada also won hammer gold with Jim Steacy (74.16).

Greg Rutherford led the long jump qualifiers with 805(1.2), Kaliese Spencer ran a smooth 55.45 as fastest 400mH qualifier, Scottish favourite Eilidh Child was next with 55.56. All the big favourites qualified in the men’s 800m (Rudisha fastest 1:46.89), the big talking point was Andrew Osagie’s DQ for obstructing Welsh runner Joe Thomas in the final stages.
