High School Gibson Preview 2012
Boys
4 X 100M Class one
The Green Island boys intend to make history. Todd, Royce, Whitelock and Vidal are on a mission to put Green Island on the track and field map. But they need to be aware of the Wolmers aggregation led by Youth Olympic champion Odeen Skeen. The surprise package here could be Kingston College who has a very balanced team.

4 X 100M Class Three
Kingston College holds all the cards here. The Roje Fearon led squad won at Western Relays and should repeat the feat at Gibson relays. Calabar however is a dangerous side, and with top sprinters Porter and Nash looking good all season, could create the upset.

4 X 800M Open
This will be the most competitive 2 Mile event for a number of years. KC, St. Jago, Holmwood, JC will be the main contestants here. Calabar’s young team will give a good account of themselves but will not be able to overcome the loss of top man “Bela”. Jamaica College is the defending champion and has the same team that gave them victory last year, but a lot will depend on the health of top man Dacosta.

As usual, the 4 X 200M will not necessarily have the top teams, so any card can play there.
Girls
4 X 100M class One
Herbert Morrison boasts top sprinters Palmer and Stevens and should start favorite here, but with Sherika Jackson running the anchor leg for Vere, no lead is safe. Edwin Allen, St. Jago, Holmwood and Alpha will be gunning for a top three spot.

Edwin Allen welcomes Christania Williams to her first big high school race for the institution. She will not disappoint and will lead her class two team to a sub 45 second run, the first in history a team in any class accomplishes this feat. The Edwin Allen team will also have other top sprinters like champs silver medalists Cameron and Allen. However, danger lurks close by , in the form of Holmwood technical whose team is also filled with quality sprinters like Johnson, Dallas and Thompson who have all run on national youth teams.

4 X 100M Class Three
This race will be closely contested and all of the top teams are in with a great chance. The top five teams have all run below 48 seconds this year, while Excelsior won the class four relays last year. Last year’s double sprint champion Shauna Helps gives Wolmers the edge, but Edwin Allen’s Stanley and St. Andrews Burton are quite capable of leading their schools to victory.

5. St. Andrew
6. Excelsior
7. St. Jago

Edwin Allen is the top team here and should win easily. The Shelece Clarke led team could make history by being the first class four team to run below 47 seconds. Wolmers, St. Jago and Hydel have very good squads and should compete for the minor places.

6. Manchester
7. St. Andrew
8. Vere Technical
4 X 400M
Vere Technical rules supreme here. They are the defending champions and with three national junior sprinters Jackson, James and Mcneil in their squad, should have things their way. Holmwood is their closest challenger, with top junior nationals Russell and Gordon, but will not have enough ammunition to challenge Vere.
4 X 800M
This will be a straight fight between the the top contenders Edwin Allen and Holmwood. Edwin Allen’s squad of Montaque, Eubanks, Thompson and Gardener is quite deep, but may find the Holmwood squad led by Gordon, Plummer and new sensation Buchanan to be be too much to handle.
1. Holmwood
2. Edwin Allen
3. Steths
4. St. jago
5. Vere
6. Spauldings
7. Oberlin
8. Manchester
The 4 X 200M will not be contested seriously by the top teams who will reserve their ammunition for the mile relay. So deep teams like Edwin Allen could have the edge here.
